Stale Love

So you say you love me
But my wants are hollow
A devil to tempt me
An angel to follow

A lover to love me
Joy in which to wallow
Instead of a vulture
I'd quite like a swallow

I really did love you
Now you make my skin crawl
I wish you would vanish
Or get up and stand tall

I just want my freedom
From boredom and from you
You're stuck like an anchor
On a ship with no crew

Open Your Eyes

Here is a poem that I read at the International Society of Poets Convention in Philadelphia. It was very well received.

Open Your Eyes

Open your eyes and listen
To the infinite silence in you
If your eyes start to glisten
A friend's snap of the fingers will do.
Focus your mind on your dreams
And leave all your sad regrets behind
Focus your eyes like sunbeams
Or your wavering gaze will be blind.
Beware that suffering fears
Don't cause you to relinquish control,
Or you will find that your peers
Will abandon your cause and let go.
Keep both your eyes wide open
Let your creative power shine through
Good thoughts merrily hopin'
Become concrete when you believe true.
Make sure not to waste the time left you
Or you may die with regrets
A gamble's as good as a promise
When you know you'll win all bets.
Be guided by signposts before you
And trace the path that is shown
If you don't stay to your chosen route
From nature's goal you'll be blown.
With faith the universe will show you
The way to eternal truth
If only you'll follow your angels
They'll guide you away to youth.
Accept your fate and give up your life
When your life force has been drained
Don't regret anything that's lost
Remember the things that you've gained.
When the whole world thinks you're crazy
And sanity is in doubt
Maybe it's past time to be lazy,
Give up your fears and get out.
